I accept commissions for portraits, murals and custom illustrations.For portraits, I work from photographs. The prices quoted are for portraits worked from photographs supplied by you. I can take photographs for you, if you live locally, for an additional fee.
Procedure
When selecting photographs please choose several of each subject. At least one for pose and several which clearly show eye and hair colour. Holiday snaps are fine to work from as long as the subject is clear enough. Please note that I can not use professionally taken photographs for the main pose as the copyright on them will belong to the photographer that took them. It is still worth including them though, as they make good reference photos.
Portraits vary in the time it takes to complete them, depending on the size and
media used, but as a rough guide, an A4 coloured pencil piece usually takes around
four weeks. When you make your initial enquiry, I will be able to advise you whether
I have other commissions already in a queue too.
Prices
I require a 30% deposit to commence work, and the balance upon receipt of the finished portrait.
If your portrait is of more than one subject, from different photos, I can email you a preliminary sketch showing layout before I begin the actual drawing.
Prices quoted are for single subject. For each additional person please add 30% to the price. Other sizes / subject groupings are available, please contact me with your requirements.
Framing
Prices quoted are for completed artwork, unframed, packaged between sheets of foam core board. For framing, I recommend Abacus Picture Framing in Mytholmroyd.
Payment
In the UK you can pay by cheque or via PayPal; either from your own account to katydid@katydid.co.uk or, if you don’t have a PayPal account I can make up a listing for you on my Etsy shop so that you can pay via credit or debit card (still via PayPal but you don’t need an account to do it.) Or of course, old fashioned cash.
Gift vouchers
An ideal present: You pay the initial 30% deposit as usual at which point I will issue you with a voucher outlining the size of portrait and number of subjects. (This can be sent direct to the recipients if you include their address) When the voucher is sent back to me from the recipient along with their photos I will start work and the balance will be payable by you upon completion. The voucher will not state the price paid , but can include a message from you.
